Expert-Roundtable with UN Under-Secretary-General Angela Kane
On June 18 2015, Angela Kane, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and until recently the United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, attended an expert-roundtable at the Westerwelle Foundation. Joined by members of the German Bundestag, the federal ministries, non-governmental organizations and the media, she participated in a discussion on the issue of disarmament. Special attention was paid to the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons which was concluded at the end of May. Moreover, Kane gave her assessment on the future development of global disarmament.
Kane initially worked for the World Bank in New York before she transferred to the United Nations in 1977, where she held numerous positions. In 2008 Ban Ki Moon appointed Kane as the Under-Secretary-General for Management. From 2012 to 2015 she was the High Representative of the United Nations for Disarmament Affairs.
