Accompanying the official inauguration of the Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali the first Westerwelle Young Founders Conference Kigali took place on October 1st and 2nd, 2018 catering to the needs of young Rwandan entrepreneurs.

Accompanying the official inauguration of the Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali the first Westerwelle Young Founders Conference Kigali took place on October 1st and 2nd, 2018 catering to the needs of young Rwandan entrepreneurs. The two days conference featured well-known local and international speakers from the private sector, government and successful Rwandan startups.

 

Attending entrepreneurs were offered workshops on cash flow management and startup financing by Louw Barnardt (MD, Outsourced CFO, South Africa), got an insight into finding product-market fit by Tosh Juma (Founder Nairobi Design Institute, Kenya) and how to build business models by Jack Kirby (Director Client Services; Inkomoko, Rwanda). Moreover, they got firsthand knowledge on what investors are looking for in a startup from Erick Yong (CEO, GreenTec Capital Partners, Germany) and improved their pitch with Christoph Rohde (Programme Manager, Westerwelle Foundation, Germany).

 

A panel discussion with renowned local and international speakers on how to enhance the Kigali startup scene marked the end of the conference. Participants got the chance to exchange ideas with Claudette Irere (Director General, Ministry of Technology and Communication, Rwanda), Dr. Hendrik Schönfelder (President Middle East & Africa, Evonik Industries AG, UAE) and Erick Yong (CEO, GreenTec Capital Partners, Germany). Successful local founders Faith Keza (CEO, Irembo, Rwanda) and Henri Nyakarundi (CEO, ARED, Rwanda) contributed their knowledge on what Rwandan founders need in order to be successful and stand out.

 

The conference was a great success and the first of many events to come that will be organized for entrepreneurs and the local startup scene in the Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali.
