The Westerwelle Foundation and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom will commemorate Guido Westerwelle in early July.
Guido Westerwelle was an outstanding figure of German liberalism. As general secretary and leader of the Free Democratic Party, he shaped the German political landscape. As a passionate believer in the European idea, he was committed to putting freedom and responsibility at the forefront of international politics. Through the Westerwelle Foundation, he sought to promote international understanding and to support young talents trying to build a self-determined future for themselves.
Early in July, the Westerwelle Foundation and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom will commemorate Guido Westerwelle as a liberal leader. Following his political example, we will turn our eyes towards the future: How can the idea of a common Europe comprised of open and liberal societies be implemented nowadays? What can liberal politics contribute to Germany’s future in light of current challenges? These questions, amongst others, will be discussed by high-ranking representatives of German and European politics.
