Farmcrowdy was founded in 2016 and their online agri-tech platform connects small-scale farmers with farm sponsors and investors with the purpose of increasing food production, expanding farm operations, and earning a healthy return in the agriculture sector. Using online technology, Farmcrowdy provides different farm types for sponsors to select from, in order to engage farmers and have an impact on their lives through funding, trainings, extension services, and the introduction of better farming techniques. Farmcrowdy recently won the title of 2016/2017 Agro-Innovator of the Year in the Nigeria Agriculture Award and was nominated one of the 25 Most Innovative Companies of the Year in Agro-Funding, while Onyeka Akumah himself was awarded the title of Digital Marketer of the Year in the Nigeria Technology Award. Farmcrowdy was also recognised by the Rockefeller Foundation in its Food Loss and Security Report for 2016 as an innovative brand in tackling agricultural problems in Africa.

Zinah Alkinani has been part of the “She Entrepreneurs Programme” by the Swedish Institute for Young Emerging Women Social Entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa. Her business to help women has been featured in various media outlets such as Iraqi television and radio programmes as well as on online media platforms. Zinah was one of six women from around the world who were listed as “The Passionate & Purposeful” by the American Story Exchange Organization.

Akorion was founded in 2015 and is an agritech company that leverages ICT to provide services and products to farmers and agribusinesses in Uganda. Using a proprietary software suite, EzyAgric, that houses and aids in making critical intelligent business decisions, Akorion has provided agricultural input sales and financial services to 60,000 smallholder farmers through a network of 460 community based agents (village agents) in a space of two years. The village agents are trained and equipped with smartphones containing the EzyAgric platform which aids them in collecting information about the farmers and using the information to provide appropriate services to farmers in Uganda. Akorion has been recognised at the 2016 WFP Innovation Accelerator in Germany, 2016 SEEP Financial Inclusion in Washington and 2017 World Economic Forum in South Africa, as well as by the Agribusiness Magazine in Uganda.
